Katara - the Cultural Village - has launched the Oneness exhibition as part of its celebrations highlighting the various aspects of Arabic calligraphy.
The exhibition includes ceramic and mixed media installations presented by the British artist, Shahida Ahmed, and will continue until August 11 in building 18.
“It is exciting for me to contribute to the Ramadan exhibition at Katara and to Qatar as a country. There are not many female Muslim artists in the West representing Islamic art and using clay as a medium. So, it is an honour for me to share my work,” said Ahmed.
“I am engaging an audience with a piece, looking at the calligraphy used in the design and the geometry, and also seeing a meaning in the piece. I have chosen this piece because it has a universal message and is a modern form of calligraphy represented through clay and mixed media. The piece shows that oneness is very simple: everything is included and allowed to live according to its true nature,”
she explained.
Talking about the Ramadan festival at Katara, Ahmed said: “I think this is a superb way to share Arabic calligraphy in a festive month like Ramadan and inform and educate the public about calligraphy and the history of the Qur’an.”
