O’Neill wished the team, particularly 24-year-old paralympian, Abdulrahman Abdul Qader Abdul Rahman, the best of luck for the games.
Michael O’Neill said: “I’m delighted to meet Qatar’s representative at the Paralympic Games who will compete in the shotput, discus and javelin. We look forward to London welcoming him and all athletes from around the world to compete in the games.”
“London’s 2012 Paralympic Games will send an important message around the world about the ability of people to overcome adversity and achieve genuine excellence, and we hope you will take away wonderful memories of a summer of sport like no other,” added O’Neill.
This summer, the Paralympic Games will be held in the birthplace of the Paralympic movement for the first time. It will also be the first time that the planning and organisation of the Olympics and Paralympics has been fully integrated. A spokesperson for the embassy said: “These Games will make a real difference to disabled people around the world, by changing attitudes, improving access and opening up new opportunities across sport, culture and business.”
Head of the Qatari delegation, Abdul Qader Ezzedine al-Moutawa, commented: “On the occasion of our team’s participation in the London 2012 Paralympic Games, I offer, in my name and on behalf of the president and members of the board of directors, my sincere thanks to the ambassador for the facilities provided to us in completing the procedures for the participation of the Qatari delegation, while ensuring to create all comfort conditions before departure to London in late August.”
“We also hope that all of these efforts culminate with the state of Qatar obtaining their first medal at the Paralympics,” he added.
