The Technical Inspection Company (Fahes) will open two more centres at Wadilbana near Qatar University and at Mesaimeer, a top company official has said. |
According to local Arabic daily Arrayah, the two branch stations are ready and they are expected to be opened soon.
The Wadilbana station has four tracks and hence will be able to serve a large number of vehicles, Arrayah quoted Eid Mohamed al-Kubaisi, operations manager of Fahes Technical Inspection Company, as saying.
The company also plans to open two large centres, one with nine tracks at Al Khor City and another at Al Wakrah.
The tenders for the construction of these stations have been awarded. He added that these two stations will be opened within two years.
Al-Kubaisi also said the Technical Inspection Company (Fahes) will work in two shifts during Ramadan.
The company’s headquarters in the Industrial Area and the branches at Mesaimeer and Al-Wakrah will work in two shifts, the first one beginning at 7am and ending at 1pm.
The second shift will be from 8.30pm to 11pm.
He added that before Ramadan these centres had been operating from 6 am to 6 pm. However, the Al Khor technical centre works in one shift from 7am to 1pm.
Al-Kubaisi stated that the number of vehicles received daily at the company’s main centre was about 800 while the number of vehicles received daily at the branch stations was about 300.
He said that during the holy month of Ramadan there is a 15% decrease in the number of cars received by the company, when compared with the number of vehicles attended to during the rest of the year.
Stray animals pose problem for residents
|
Several residents have voiced concern over the presence of stray animals in parts of Doha and called for a suitable solution, local daily Al-Arab has reported. |
The residents have said the increase in the number of stray dogs and cats in some areas poses a health risk to the public. As a remedial measure, they have suggested that these animals be caught and taken to some specific place like shelters, the report adds.
Sheikha bint Yousif al-Jifairi, a member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC), said a proposal had been submitted to adopt a recommendation seeking the establishment of a shelter for such animals. The CMC has adopted the recommendation and sent the same to the authorities concerned, according to the report.
The CMC member said while the presence of stray animals might lead to health hazards, they should not be killed and instead be provided with shelter, food and medical care.
The council member and other citizens confirmed that the recommendation had been taken seriously by the Ministry of Environment (MoE), the report said.
In a report issued by the ministry, it has been stated that the MoE has already set up a committee to check the number of stray dogs, cats and other animals.
The report also points out that a large number of these animals have been caught over the past few years.
From 2006 to 2013, as many as 56,908 cats and 354 dogs have been caught and kept in safe places.
