The Ministry of Interior (MoI), through its various departments, is distributing more than 20,000 Iftar kits containing water and dates among motorists.
The initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to curb overspeeding and encourage people to drive cautiously and slowly in the Holy Month of Ramadan, especially before Iftar.
MoI departments such as Traffic, Al-Fazaa and Community Policing sections at the Capital, Dukhan, North, South and Rayyan security departments have distributed water and dates within their jurisdictions, important streets in Doha and on the Corniche, wishing them Ramadan Mubarak.
Personnel from the Airport Passports and Airport Security Departments have also distributed dates and water among arriving and departing passengers at Doha International Airport. This initiative is part of a partnership between the community and police, aimed at spreading the message of love and empathy.
While distributing the kits among motorists, the MoI personnel are also advising them to drive carefully and not to overspeed, which may lead to traffic problems and even accidents.
The kits also contain guidelines and instructions for motorists to abide by traffic laws, asking them not to rush during Iftar as it may lead to violations and accidents. Traffic personnel are deployed on major roads just before the prayer call to provide Iftar snacks to motorists.
The Traffic Department has urged motorists to respect others’ rights on the road, not to close parking entrances and exits and not to block traffic by parking in front of other vehicles. It has also asked the public to follow the instructions of the traffic police, especially in front of shopping malls and commercial areas where traffic jams are common during Ramadan.
The department has asked people to observe the spirit of Ramadan by abiding by traffic safety rules, not using mobile phones while driving, leaving adequate space between vehicles and staying alert while driving.
The special kits will be distributed by the ministry throughout Ramadan on roads where traffic congestion is expected at the time of Iftar.
