Five children from Doha, whose artworks were voted the top five entries in Qatar Airways’ Future of Travel art competition held earlier this year, have returned from Switzerland after exploring the sights of Zurich with their families. |
The airline treated the young artists to a five-day trip to Switzerland that included flights, accommodation and tours thanks to the additional support of Marriott Hotel and the
Zurich Tourism Board.
Besides touring sites across the Swiss city, the youngsters also visited the children’s education-based theme park, Kinder City.
Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker said initiatives such as the Future of Travel competition helped engage young people with an
interest in aviation.
“The imagination and excitement about aviation and travel, which was displayed in the entries we received, was heartening and we were extremely pleased with the number of children who took part,” said al-Baker. “Encouraging local talent is something Qatar Airways takes great pride in. We were delighted to see the five winning artists enjoy this fabulous trip to Europe as a reward for their efforts.”
Vice-president (commercial, Qatar) Ehab Amin said the airline looked forward to running similar competitions for local
children in the future.
“Encouraging children to explore an interest in aviation is a role we take great pride in and will continue to work hard to engage the local community through initiatives such as the Future of Travel competition,” he said. “We are grateful for the support provided by the Zurich Tourism Board, Marriott Hotel and Kinder City, which made this initiative possible.”
The places visited by the children included the old Zurich town, the toy museum and Zurich Zoo & Masoala Rainforest.
