Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) yesterday announced the winners of awards given as part of the Hotel Quality Rating Programme.

Conducted in collaboration with a specialised international agency, the programme aims to improve the quality of services in the hospitality and tourism industry and create a national benchmark. As part of this, six top-ranked hotels in Qatar have been recognised for excellence in service and product quality.

QTA chairman Issa bin Mohamed al-Muhannadi presented the awards to the representatives of hotels that received a rating of 90% and above in the quality rankings during a ceremony held at the QTA headquarters. The event was attended by officials from QTA and the local hospitality industry.

The winners of the Hotel Quality Standards Award were Kempinski Residences & Suites, Doha, The St Regis Doha, Oryx Rotana, W Doha Hotel & Residences, La Cigale Hotel and Wyndham Grand Regency.

The initiative seeks to raise the level of hospitality facilities and services offered in Qatar to comply with international standards, spread the spirit of competition among hotels and position Qatar as a leading hospitality destination.

“We congratulate the winning hotels on getting this award, which reflects our appreciation of the hospitality industry’s efforts to enhance the level of services offered in Qatar. This programme is one in a series of initiatives carried out by QTA to ensure the highest quality within the hospitality and tourism industry. We look forward to welcoming new hotels in the coming year,” said al-Muhannadi.

The evaluation of hotels was based on a rating system that evaluated a wide number of criteria, including pre-arrival service, on-site service, food and beverage, rooms, public areas, business services, leisure facilities, cleanliness, respect of privacy, safety/security and others.

The programme - launched this year - employed mystery guests who randomly selected hotels in Qatar and tested their services and facilities during a two- or three-day stay. From the booking process through the stay, the guests assessed the level of services and facilities provided, in addition to the staff’s ability to resolve fabricated problems. The guests then completed a full technical report evaluating the hotel and its services to prepare the final rankings.

Currently, QTA is working on a number of initiatives that will contribute to the growth and development of the tourism industry in Qatar.

QTA is also gearing up for the launch of the Eid Festival that will feature a large number of celebrations and activities to attract tourists from neighbouring countries to Qatar, which has become a key destination for family tourism. QTA has also launched over the past month a promotional campaign in the region to promote Qatar and the Eid Festival.
