Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has been working to improve living conditions at the Jarablos refugee camp, located on the northern border of Syria, by enhancing co-operation with World Vision International (WVI).
This falls within QRC’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of Syrian refugees and displaced persons and in light of its administration of the camp since last year.
The co-operation entails developing the Jarablos border camp and accomplishing QRC’s earlier efforts in improving the camp’s living conditions to preserve the dignity of its inhabitants.
This is to be achieved through full provision of the refugees’ needs according to minimum humanitarian standards, creating a near-ideal situation at the camp that hosts around 210 families in 200 tents.
QRC and WVI have agreed on the co-ordination and implementation of several requirements.
These include restoration of the camp’s outer walls to prevent animals from coming inside; implementation of a water and sanitation programme that includes properly-equipped shower and toilet areas (in accordance with customs and traditions) and waste disposal; provision of water, storing it in specialised tanks inside the camp and installing water heaters for shower and personal hygiene; equipping common kitchens inside the camp; provision of primary healthcare by establishing a nearby clinic associated with the camp; development of an educational and entertainment programme for children - in accordance with the international standards of child protection - within a dedicated tent equipped with various tools; and implementation of maternal healthcare programmes.
QRC and WVI have also agreed to exchange information of common interest.
