A doctorate was conferred upon M P Hassan Kunhi, prominent Indian businessman and socio-cultural and educational activist, by The International Open University in recognition of his outstanding contribution in medical tourism and humanitarian services.

The degree was awarded at the International Congress of Integrated Medicines, held in the Malaysian capital recently.

Dr Kunhi, a long-time Doha resident, has been running multi-faceted business ventures in the GCC countries, Sudan and India over the past 35 years.

His business enterprises include Scitech Arabia, Hala Pharmacy, Hamton International, Hamilton International, Powerman International, Planet Fashion, Planet Cargo, Planet Trading & Transportation, Instashine Cleaning Company, Lighting Solution, Middle East Consultants, Home in One, Global  Mechanical, Horeitia Global, Fine Décor and Contracting Qatar, Hygiene Care Trading, Saudi Arabia, and Horizon Hotel Sudan.

Dr Kunhi’s business ventures in India are H K Builders and Developers, Holy Prop Industries, Design & Interior Industries, Molecular Multi-specialty Hospital Private Ltd and Molecular Cyclotrone Pvt Ltd.

Dr Kunhi is also the managing director of Cochin Medical City, an integrated medical tourism project in the planning stage. He is a director of Al Rafa Polyclincs, Al Khayam Sweets International Qatar and P M S College of Dental Science & Research, Thiruvananthapuram, India.

On the social front, Dr Kunhi is also president of Muslim Education Society of Kerala, Doha Chapter; president, Sir Syed College Alumini, Qatar Chapter; president and founder-member, Ideal Indian School, Qatar; former president, Kannur Muslim Jammat, Qatar Chapter; patron, Muslim Educational and Cultural Association, Payangadi, Kannur; founder-member and former treasurer, Indian Cultural Centre; founder-member of Indian Community Benevolent Fund; and chairman of Antismoking Society Qatar.
