Continue the legacy

Dear Sir,

As a regular reader of Gulf Times online edition living outside Qatar, I would like to offer hearty congratulations to HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani who was handed the reins of power by his father HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on Tuesday.
HH Sheikh Hamad’s decision to transfer power to the young heir apparent was historic.
Qatar, under the dynamic leadership of the Father Emir HH Sheikh Hamad, had developed into a political and economic powerhouse with multi-billion dollar investments across world. The Qatar government has wisely used its immense oil and gas wealth to drive modernisation in Qatar with world-class infrastructure projects. It was under Sheikh Hamad’s reign that Qatar had won the right to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Under Sheikh Hamad, Qatar’s economy had grown significantly. He was a selfless ruler who always kept the interest of the nation above everything. We pray Almighty that new ruler of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim, will continue the legacy of HH Sheikh Hamad, taking Qatar to new heights in development and playing a greater role in Middle East and world affairs.

A leader close to people’s hearts

Dear Sir,

In reference to the Viewpoint, “The legacy continues even as the new era begins in Qatar” (Gulf Times, June 26), I feel that his good education and experience as the heir apparent will help HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim to build on what has already been achieved under the Father Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.
HH Sheikh Hamad has made Qatar a prosperous nation with its citizens having the highest per capita income in the world. Also, he has made the nation progress on all fronts. Under his leadership, Qatar has also been successful in mediating in many world conflicts. He will always have a place in the hearts of all Qataris as well as expatriates.

Power of education

Dear Sir,

Education is a precious thing: it gives us knowledge. With the help of knowledge we can find solutions to every problem. A person without education is like a body without a soul.
Some people, it seems, are not keen about educating girls. Why? Because they think that a girl is born to take care of house and children when she grows up. But haven’t they heard the saying: “If you educate a man, you educate one person. If you educate a woman, you educate and liberate a whole nation.”
We all should try to educate illiterate people. Students can volunteer in such a project. Also, we can give our old books to those who cannot afford them. Small steps but they make a major impact.
Education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world.
