Airport Road needs a trim
Dear Sir,
Trees lining the Airport Road from B Ring to E Ring are beautiful; unfortunately they are so overgrown that they pose a hazard to both drivers and pedestrians.
Pedestrians cannot use the sidewalks in numerous places, and are forced to walk out on the road, exposed to injury from traffic.
Drivers on the service road near E-Ring cannot see traffic exiting from the Airport Road.
Drivers between C and B ring heading toward the Corniche are forced to veer into the middle lane to dodge trees, or else risk striking the branches. I recently broke my car antenna this way.
Trees lining public roads usually add value to a city, but only if they are maintained.
Is there a department of the Doha Municipality which we can prompt to trim the trees along Airport Road for the benefit of pedestrians and drivers?

An irreparable loss to cinema
Dear Sir,
The death of R Manivannan is an irreparable loss not only to Tamil films but to the entire Indian cinema (“Tamil actor and director Manivannan dies aged 58”, Gulf Times, June 16).
In the last two decades, he had struck a chord with Tamil film audiences. Manivannan worked in over 400 films, in different genres right from thrillers to family dramas. He will be most cherished for his role in Tamil films such as Mudhalvan, Sangamam and Ullathai Allitha. His dialogue delivery had a style of its own.
As a director, he specialised in comedies.
He was an avid reader. At political forms, he was known for his firebrand speeches. He was an ardent supporter of the Tamil Eelam cause, and openly supported the LTTE.
