HE the Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday inaugurated the ministry’s new security printing press . Government and bank officials, as well as the ministry’s departmental directors, attended the function.
Addressing the event, director of the ministry’s Logistics Department Brig Abdul Azeez Abdullah al-Ansari described the security printing press project as a quantum leap from the world of field security to that of technical security.
He added that a number of national cadres were sent for specialised courses in different countries to hone their skills in the field.
Brig al-Ansari said the aim of setting up the printing press is to protect documents and publications that need a high level of security, whether in the public or private sector. The press will print documents such as cheques and bonds, certificates and property deeds to ensure that these cannot be tampered with and forged. In addition, it will print various types of magnetic stripe cards.
The project will be supervised by a consultant authorised by global credit card issuers (Visa, MasterCard ,etc) to ensure the implementation of the project according to the required specifications.
Brig al-Ansari thanked HE the Minister for his support. The head of Police Press, Maj Faisal al-Ansari, explained the features of the press, its potential and work mechanism. He said the security printing press takes into account the highest levels of safety and security standards, preservation of the environment and health of employees through the use of latest technologies. At the end of the ceremony, HE the Minister honoured all those who had contributed to the launch of the project.
The bank officials who attended the function lauded the initiative, saying the press would help bring further gains to banks and customers - both economically and in terms of security - and also cut down on time, effort and cost.
