Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary-General HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani has praised sports bodies, corporates, sponsors, government institutions and volunteers for making the National Sport Day a success. |
“It’s a pleasure for me to meet you here in this ceremony in which we honour our partners in addition to the employees and volunteers in recognition to their efforts in the 2013 National Sport Day,” Sheikh Saoud said at a function at St Regis Hotel where officials representing various institutions were given certificates of appreciation.
“On this occasion, we would like to express our pride that the National Sport Day initiative, which came in response to the Emiri Decree issued by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Deputy Emir and the Heir Apparent to mark the National Sport Day on the second Tuesday of February every year, has caught on with the public,” Sheikh Saoud said.
“The initiative aims to create awareness about sports and its health benefits and made the State of Qatar, the first country in the world to allocate a special day for sport,” he added.
“We are delighted with your contribution to the 2013 National Sport Day,” Sheikh Saoud said praising QOC staff and volunteers for their efforts to make the event a success.
“We also hail the concern of the different sectors for the National Sport Day and the initiatives of the other governmental and private bodies in the state to mark the National Sport Day.
“We are proud of these elite young people and we are confident that honouring them be a motivation for them to continue your hard work especially with regard to the big challenges that lie ahead in the coming period.”
Sheikh Saoud also spoke of plans for the next National Sport Day on February 11, 2014.
“The success of the National Sport Day programme has resulted in co-operation from the other bodies to present joint ideas and programmes. The QOC and the Qatar Tourism Authority are going to organise a sports tourist festival during the next National Sport Day. The festival will begin on Wednesday, February 5, and will continue until the National Sport Day,” he said.
