Students and Patterson with their newest furry classmates gifted by WWF

The students of Park House English School took part in a fund-raising campaign for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to mark the World Environment Day.
During the event, the children raised QR9,700 and opted to ‘sponsor’ some 55 rare and endangered species throughout the WWF sponsorship scheme.
The WWF marks the sponsorship scheme by giving stuffed animals to the children.
Science teacher and project co-ordinator Gabrielle Patterson said: “The children really got behind this excellent WWF initiative to support rare and endangered species and I was absolutely astounded by the amount raised and therefore the number of animals that we were able to sponsor.”
Headmaster Dougie Smith said: “It is very satisfying to see our children take such a responsible approach to being global citizens.”
Other activities at Park House included a writing competition where children wrote some very creative and moving stories about what it might be like to be an animal on the brink of extinction and the healthy discussions that followed on.
The WWF has indicated that it would like to use some of the stories for promotional material in the future.
