A handout picture released yesterday by the New Zealand Post shows a special set of Matariki stamps incorporating one of the most iconic symbols of Maoridom, the koru, a spiral pattern based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond, alongside aspects of traditional Maori culture that have particular significance during the time of Matariki, the Maori New Year. New Zealand Post is celebrating Matariki with special stamps and a coin, and major public events in Auckland and Wellington.
