The lecture was given by the ministry’s Human Rights Department director Col. Abdullah Saqr al-Mohannadi. He explained several aspects about human rights and the UN’s international conventions in this regard.
He also discussed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a basic right for everyone, pointing to the legal frameworks that govern the Universal Declaration.
Al-Mohannadi said that Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (QNCHR), founded in 2002, has received ‘A’ rating, which proves the committee’s merit and outstanding performance.
He said the Minister of Interior ordered the foundation of a human rights committee within the ministry.
Al-Mohannadi also noted the department’s effort to spread awareness of human rights among the ministry’s personnel.
The lecture is part of a series of lectures organised between June 10 and July 5 jointly with International College Britain.
