The Academic Council of the Association of Education of Journalism and Mass Communication (ACAEJMC) has awarded international accreditation status for Qatar University’s Communication Department of the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS).
The council’s review committee visited the campus in January during which it assessed the
curriculum and study plan.
QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad congratulated the department on its achievement and said that the accreditation was an important achievement for the department, the college and the university as a whole, as part of QU’s continuing efforts towards accreditation for all its colleges, departments and programmes.
Congratulating the department’s students, staff and faculty for success, CAS dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi said: “The mass communication department joins other departments and programmes at CAS that gained similar recognition from world-renowned international accrediting bodies. This is a big leap forward in our determination to raise the standards of all our programmes to international performance and excellence.”
Dr Mustafawi added: “The mass communication programme is the first such in the Gulf, Middle East and North African region, and the second in the world outside the US to have achieved such a distinction.”
The department’s success is a culmination of a six-year exercise that included an intensive self-study as well as review visits from ACAEJMC members, with full participation of the college and department administration, faculty, staff and students.
