Pole-sitter Ahmad Ghaith al-Kuwari  led from the start to win the fifth round of Qatar National Road Racing Championship at Losail on Saturday.

The Qatari driver clocked 24mins:00.938secs in his Mitsubishi EVOX, winning the race with a gap of 10.363secs over Abdulaziz Abdulla.

“In the beginning of the race four cars passed me easily but I think because of my experience I managed to keep the lead and win the race. I saw they were little bit slower so I took advantage on the corners.  I pushed to the maximum there,” al-Kuwari said at the end of the race. Abdulla, in a Porsche Carrera, started in fourth place on the grid but on the first lap he overtook Mohamed Nasser al-Aseiri and Pavel Nedobity and maintained the second place until the end. Abdulla said the race was tough and he tried his best to finish on the podium.

The third place in the Open class was won by al-Aseiri, driving a Porsche GT3.

In the Open class, Abdulaziz Abdulla is leading the standings with 36 points, while Talal Wehbe is in second place with 33. Al-Aseiri is in third place with 21 points.

In the Production class, the winner was Saif al-Naimi in a Suzuki Swift. He had a tough battle with David Walker and Rhodelin Senga.

“The race was very difficult. I cannot believe I finished in first position because the drivers that won yesterday were very fast, but today it was my day as some of them broke down. I want to thank my team and my friends,” said al-Naimi. Walker was second Senga couldn’t finish the race. The third place was won by Canadian driver Peter de Vido.

Trophies were presented by Sultan al-Morraikhi, QMMF Board Member.

The next round will be held on June 7 and 8.
