RasGas has donated QR1.4mn to Qatar Paralympic Committee (QPC) and Qatar Cultural and Social Centre for the Deaf (QCSCD).

The funds were raised during the company’s eighth annual charity gala dinner and a related golf tournament held earlier this year. The donors include RasGas shareholders, customers,
suppliers and employees.

The proceeds were handed over by RasGas CEO Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi in a ceremony held at the company’s headquarters. “RasGas is pleased to be able to bring together so many members of our community to provide support to deserving charitable causes in Qatar. Our annual charity gala dinner is a main contributor to the company’s charity fund, Sunduk Al Kheir, and integral to our corporate social responsibility programme,” said al-Mohannadi.

Dr Hassan al-Ansari, secretary-general of QPC, and Ali Obeid al-Sanari, chairman of QCSCD, attended the ceremony on behalf of their organisations.

Dr al-Ansari said the donations would be channelled towards upgrading facilities and funding special-needs initiatives. “Basketball is a very popular sport among people with special needs at QPC as it brings them together. We are considering forming a basketball team, which requires having special equipment customised for each of our players. I appreciate and commend RasGas’ contribution and support for QPC,” he said.

Al-Sanari said the money would help achieve QCSCD’s goals and financing initiatives that would not have been possible otherwise. “My dream is to develop an Arabic and English dictionary about Qatar for the deaf. At QCSCD, our role is to create channels of communication with the community and I am very pleased to see RasGas support us in our efforts,” he said.

The contributing donors included Nasser al-Hajri, ExxonMobil, Merrill Lynch, Chiyoda Almana, NIGP, JGC Corporation, Doha Golf Club, Qatar Airways, Itochu, Chart Industries, Qatar National Bank, Maersk, Invensys, Consolidated Contractors Company, Baker Hughes, LNG Japan, Schlumberger, Al Ahed Trading, Pan Maritime Energy Services, The Information Store, Al Mana Group, Citibank, Ensco, Deloitte & Touche, Wilhelsmen Ship Services, Nakilat, Al Misnad Manpower Services, Iwatani Corporation, Construction Development Company, Petrotec, Pronav Ship Management, Red Spider, Repsol and LNG Holdings.

“These donations are a true demonstration of corporate citizenship, which RasGas’ shareholders, customers, suppliers and employees share,” said
al-Mohannadi.
