Qatar University College of Education’s (CED) fourth annual action research conference to be held on June 23, will address best practices for schools in Qatar.
It will draw representatives from 20 schools across Qatar, as well as CED faculty and key experts from the Supreme Education Council’s (SEC) Education Institute.
The conference organised jointly with the SEC, is an important scientific event where teachers and school professionals will present research projects and engage educators and policymakers to take advantage of their findings to plan for best school practices in Qatar in line with the country’s education reform process.
Announcing the conference at a press briefing, CED Dean Dr Hissa Sadiq said: “This is a great opportunity for teachers and educators to exchange their experiences of action research – allowing them to reflect on their own teaching practices and learn about new methods to improve their teaching strategies. Year after year, we see increasingly high quality research – this shows the benefit of having such conferences and giving teachers and educators the chance to continue their professional development.”
Education Institute research specialist Sheikha Hamad al-Hadri said: “Ongoing research is an important part of the professional development of teachers and this conference provides an ideal forum for the exchange of ideas and skills. It allows teachers from all disciplines to come together and discuss best practice, thus it broadens teachers’ knowledge about the range of issues their peers are
facing.”
Dr Ramzi Nasser, conference co-ordinator at CED and associate professor of educational sciences, added: “As well as providing teachers with an excellent forum for information sharing, the conference also gives us – the teachers of future teachers – a clear understanding of some of the issues at grassroots level and how individual teachers are managing to overcome them, so we can tailor our own education programmes accordingly.”
The keynote speaker will be Dr Dirar Khoury, director of institutional research and acting executive director of the research division at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development.
Among the presenters will be 12 graduate students from the Special Education and Educational Leadership Masters’ programmes who, for the first-time, will share their research
findings.
