Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) organised a ceremony to honour the winners of Abdullah Al Darwish Award for Youth Researchers in Islamic Studies.
HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, the chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, handed over the awards to the winners.
The ceremony was attended by a host of scholars and researchers from different Arabic and Islamic countries. Among the participants were Sheikh Dr Yousef al-Qaradawi, president of the Supreme Foundation of the Award and the International Union for Muslim Scholars; Bader al-Darwish, sponsor of the awards; Prof Hatem El Karanshawy, founder dean of the Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies; Prof Aisha al-Mannai, director of Sheik Muhammad Bin Hamad al-Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilisation; and Prof Ridwan al-Sayyid, an Islamic Studies professor at the Lebanese University.
On behalf of the Islamic Universities League, Prof Jafar Abdul Salam, secretary general, also joined the celebration.
Al-Darwish said: “This award is a humble donation and at the same time we take it seriously to serve our divine religion and to encourage researchers to produce more studies in the three domains of Qur’anic sciences; Sunna and Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh). This is essential to promote the spirit of Islamic scientific competitiveness worldwide, and to enrich Islamic studies with scientific
authentic researches.”
Abdullah Al Darwish Award for Youth Researchers in Islamic Studies is a universal, periodic, independent, arbitrary award that is offered in appreciation of distinguished researches tackling Qur’anic sciences, Sunna and Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh). The award had received 56 research works in its first phase from different Arab Muslim countries and 44 research works were accepted for peer review.
The award includes an appreciation certificate with a laureate justification, a cash reward of $50,000 for the first place winner, $30,000 the second place and $20,000 for the third place. Complementary prizes of $4,000 each are also given out to three researchers. Each laureate is also awarded a shield bearing the prize logo as well.
Dr Abdel Haleem Mansour won the first position while Badawy Mustafa won the second prize and the third prize was equally divided between Isam Helmy Tleema and Dr Abeer Sabry Saleem each taking $10,000. Jummuah Shaban, Dr Muhammed Mursy and Muhamed al-Sharqawy were other laureates who won the
complementary prizes.
