Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) organised a ceremony yesterday evening to honour the winners of the Abdullah Al Darwish Award for Youth Researchers in Islamic Studies. The event was held in the presence of HE the Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah. Other prominent personalities at the ceremony included Sheikh Dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi, head of the International Union for Muslim Scholars; Bader al-Darwish, the sponsor; Dr Hatem el-Karanshawy, QFIS founder and dean; Dr Aisha al-Mannai, director of Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani Centre for Muslim Contribution to Civilisation; and Dr Ridwan al-Sayyid, an Islamic Studies professor at Lebanese University. On behalf of the Islamic Universities League, secretary general Dr Jaafar Abdul Salam also joined the celebrations. Dr Abdel Haleem Mansour won the first place (prize money of $50,000), Badawy Mustafa finished second ($30,000) while Isam Helmy Tleema and Dr Abeer Sabry Saleem were joint third ($10,000 each). Jummuah Shaban, Dr Maohamed Mursy and Mohamed al-Sharqawy were the other winners ($4,000 each).
