The lecture in progress at the event.
Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking (QFCHT) yesterday organised the second programme of ‘Wayakum’ campaign under the slogan ‘Home is wherever you are sustained’ at the Labour Health Centre in the Industrial Area for more than 400 workers.
The programme included an awareness lecture presented by Dr Abdulsamad Sukkay, international law professor and research and study expert at the Police Training Institute of the Ministry of Interior.
The speaker dwelt on the concept of the migrant labour and the impact of sincerity at work, the relation between the worker and the employer, and definition of the labour contract according to national and international legislations, especially the Qatari labour law No. 14 of 2004, that implied the reciprocal commitments of both parties of the contract.
The expert touched upon the most important security, moral, or social problems the society might get exposed to due to the presence of migrant workers and the ways of avoiding such problems.
He stressed the necessity of protecting the rights of migrant workers in Qatar through three mechanisms: Constitutional and legal protection, institutional protection, and social and economic protection.
The speech was simultaneously translated into Urdu. The event also featured competitions.
