Indian musician Stephen Devassy, who is to choreograph Movie Awards of Qatar (ImaQ 2013) ceremony at Al Ahli Stadium on Friday, said yesterday that he will focus on the “rich variety, vibrancy, depth and diversity” of the Indian music at the show.

Speaking from India on telephone, he said his music academy, the operations of which he plans to spread to five more countries, other than Qatar in coming months would focus more on the music lovers among the westerners, who are interested in pursuing careers in Indian classical and ragas.

The ace pianist is a graduate of London’s prestigious Trinity College of Music.

Music Lounge, the new academy he has opened in Wakrah, has already started operations and has faculty from India, Sri Lanka and The Philippines.

At the ImaQ awards ceremony, the musician plans to produce “jugulbundi”, combining the features of the western classical, eastern ragas and elements of Arabian music forms.

Regarding Friday’s award ceremony, Devassy said the main attraction will be superstar Mohanlal and he will be supported by other artistes, musicians and comedians for an array of items, including a musical concert and skits.
