Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi and Nafez Bseiso at the RasGas safety milestone celebrations.

RasGas recently celebrated one of the “biggest safety milestones” in its history with the successful completion of 55mn man-hours without any ‘lost time incident’ (LTI).

The company’s Venture Group, which manages several projects ranging from the Barzan Gas Project (one of the largest in the region) to the Helium 2 Project (the largest in the world), honoured employees and contractors in Doha recently.

“We have created history in the industry by achieving 55mn man-hours without an LTI. It is a truly outstanding achievement, especially given the size and pace of the mega projects that this team is executing,” said RasGas chief executive officer Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi.

“The Barzan project is currently utilising more than 25,000 workers while the Helium-2 Project peaked at 1,500 workers. Our employees, contractors and workers, from different parts of the world, have worked tirelessly to ensure we have an injury-free workplace,” he said.

“It has been less than five months since the RasGas Venture Group achieved 30mn man-hours without LTI. Achieving 55mn man-hours without an LTI is definitely an industry-leading performance. There is no higher objective than striving for excellence in safeguarding the health and safety of our people and the environment. This is an ongoing commitment for RasGas and we take great pride in our reputation as a world leader in safety performance,” said al-Mohannadi.

RasGas chief venture officer Nafez Bseiso said: “We truly believe that all incidents can be prevented and that an injury-free workplace is possible. Today, we celebrate this value and more importantly, we renew our commitment – with the collaborative work of our employees and contractors at all levels – to providing an injury-free workplace.”

“The scale of the projects that RasGas is undertaking today is almost unprecedented in our industry in terms of safety focus, innovation, technological advances, flawless execution, environmental awareness and development of people. I am proud to say that RasGas’ Venture is successfully maintaining the safest projects and construction sites in the world,” he said.

The event was also attended by high level representatives from shareholder companies, Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil. Recognition awards were presented to representatives from the Venture Department and project teams as well as key contractors and subcontractors for their outstanding performance.
