The team which is preparing for the second Wilfy Day event
The second Wilfy Day, an evening of music and dance in memory of the late Konkan music legend Wilfy Rebimbus, will be held at Concorde Hotel’s RasLaffan Hall on June 8.
The event will begin at 5.30pm.The theme of the event is ‘Celebrating womanhood through the immortal songs of Wilfy Rebimbus,’ said lead organiser Eddie Sequeira, a noted Konkani actor-director and artiste.
“Many meaningful songs by the late Wilfy, not recorded or heard in many years, will be presented at this show by highly talented local singers, who are trained by the Konkan maestro’s daughter Veena,” Sequeira explained.
A dance choreographed by Prabha Rego and actors enacting some of the songs are among the highlights of the evening to which entry is free. The venue can accommodate only 250 people.
Like last year, a Konkani poetry session will be part of the celebration owing to public demand. Gladson D’Almeida will be the moderator.
Budding Konkani poets, Prabha Rego, Della Rego, Vivek Monteiro as well as Veena, Sequeira and a few others will be reciting poems. Sana Britto, who made it to the finals of the recently conducted SOAD-3 International, GVOM II finalists, Preema Pinto and Rupert Lobo, along with the Rebimbus family, Veena, Arthur and Arwin, will be presenting some of the best songs ever composed by Wilfy.
There will be also be a special rendition by Nandita D’Silva as well as young singers Rupal, Chrissal, Elreena, Veenal and Sybal. Established local singers Launa, Jane, Eva Wilma, Emilia, Pramila, Sunita Tellis and singer couples Namita-Remy and Nina-Vincent, too, would join in the musical gala evening.
