The all-new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé, the first four-door coupé in the history of the BMW brand, has arrived in Qatar following its unveiling to global audiences at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show in March this year. The 640i Gran Coupé is now available in the Qatar market with the 650i Gran Coupé expected to become available in September.
The third model in the 6 Series line up, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé follows the successful debut of the next generation convertible and coupé models last year. The aim in the design process of the 6 Series Gran Coupé was to achieve a synergy between the aesthetics and dynamics typical of a coupé and functional versatility of a four-door sedan.
The exterior sets new standards in terms of aesthetic design for four-door vehicles as seen in its low height and the flat roofline that smoothly flows into the rear end. The recessed passenger compartment appears low and smoothly stretched because the window silhouette extends deep into the C pillar. The frameless door windows are also a design element indicative of a sporty coupé.
The interior of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé has a driver orientation typical of the BMW brand. The driver-focused cockpit and front passenger area is bordered by elegantly sweeping surfaces with a harmonious connection between the front seats and the rear.
Passengers in the rear will be surprised by the generous space and high level of comfort in a stylish and luxurious surrounding.  The four-door coupé is a four-seater that offers generous travel comfort in the back with an additional third rear seat which can be used for shorter journeys.
Powered by one of two engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the 6 Series Gran Coupé offers a sporty and powerful driving experience. The six-in-line engine in the 640i Gran Coupé comprises a turbo-charging system, high pressure injection and Valvetronic, twin-scroll turbo-charging. The exhaust gas pulses from each bank of three cylinders are fed through two separate channels to the turbine wheel. This produces a maximum power of 320hp, at 5,800-6,000rpm, from a displacement of 3.0 litres, allowing the 640i Gran Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 5.4 seconds.
The top-of-the-line 650i Gran Coupé coming in September sports the latest generation 4.4l V8 engine with two turbochargers and ‘high precision direct injection’ optimising both efficiency and response. Power in both engines of the 6 Series Gran Coupé is managed by an eight-speed sports automatic transmission. With extremely fast gear changes, this unit is built for sporty driving, comfortable shifting and optimised efficiency, operated using the electronic gear selector on the centre console.
The ‘driving experience control’ switch on the centre console allows the driver to alter accelerator response characteristics, engine response, the power steering characteristics, the DSC settings, the damper characteristics and the shift characteristics of the automatic transmission.
Designed with state-of-the-art chassis technology, the 6 Series Gran Coupé will delight drivers with its dynamic performance and outstanding refinement. Highlights that come as standard include ‘electric power steering’ and ‘dynamic damper control’ to help provide the perfect balance between dynamics and comfort.
An unrivalled range of BMW ConnectedDrive driver assistance technology features for enhanced comfort and safety include Park Assistant, camera-based collision warning with braking function (in conjunction with active cruise control) and the latest-generation full colour head-up display that projects the symbols in 3D on the windscreen.
“The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé follows in the tracks of the 6 Series Convertible and Coupé that we launched last year. We have already received a lot of interest for this new model and are confident that its distinctive character, such as the low coupé-style roof line, combined with dynamic driving, unmatched features and elegant style, will continue to turn heads amongst customers in Qatar,” said Alfardan Automobiles general manager Mohamed Kandeel.
