Hundreds of people, including school children yesterday flocked to the Doha Exhibitions Center for the Education Fair hosted by the Supreme Education Council (SEC).

The four-day event showcases opportunities at Qatar’s various international, community, independent and expatriate educational institutions.

It also highlights the facilities at these institutions which support the curricular and extra-curricular requirements of the school children.

The fair, held under the theme ‘Various Alternatives for Better Education,’ was opened by Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the SEC Saad bin Ibrahim al-Mahmoud.

The minister expressed happiness at the pace at which reforms are introduced in the country’s educational sector, and said the fair gives an insight into the educational initiatives the country has made in the last decade.

The minister, accompanied by senior Qatari officials also went around various stalls.

The organisers said the fair provides diverse and distinctive opportunities to the students.

The fair, according to some of the participants, also helps parents to understand the educational and career options available for their children.

The event, they said, provides open interactive channels of awareness for SEC services and makes them more accessible for users, in particular e-learning services.

A large number of international, expatriate and independent schools have their pavilions at the event.

In the next three days, the organisers are holding seminars, workshops and other student-friendly sessions. The fair is open between 10am and 8pm. Tomorrow it is open from 4pm to 8pm.
