V Dakshinamoorthy, India’s veteran Carnatic music maestro, will attend the upcoming Pearl Awards 2013. This will be the first time that he will participate in an event in the Middle East.
The Pearl Awards 2013, organised by Matrix Media in association with the Kerala Film Producers Association, will be held at Doha’s West End Park on May 3.
Dakshinamoorthy has to his credit as many as 859 songs composed over a period of 50 years. Besides, as a music director in south Indian movies, he has composed the score for over 150 films.
Dakshinamoorthy will participate in the event despite health concerns. This is because May 3 - the date on which the show will be held - will mark 100 years of Indian cinema.
The maestro has been quoted as saying that he is proud to be a part of the Pearl Awards, which will bring together the biggest names of south Indian cinema and felicitate legends, one of whom happens to be Dakshinamoorthy. He is also eager to meet Indian expatriates in Qatar, to whom the show is dedicated.
The veteran has wished all success to people living in Qatar, highlighted by his famous words: “Sarvacharachara guruvarkkum namaskaram (salute to all beings and the supreme power)”.
Dakshinamoorthy is also said to be ecstatic about the fact that he will share the limelight with his biggest disciple, KJ Yesudas, after many years. He has also expressed his willingness to perform a concert in conjunction with the event.
