The 10th Doha Interfaith Dialogue Conference kicks off at Doha Ritz-Carlton Hotel today.
The theme of the conference is “Best Practice in Interfaith Dialogue”.
Minister of Justice HE Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem will open the Conference.
Chairman of the Doha International Centre for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) Dr Ibrahim al-Naimi said that the three-day conference would discuss topics in four categories: academia, justice, conflict resolution and peace, and the media culture.
He added that the conference is a continuation of the series that started in 2003, as a testament to HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s interest in promoting understanding for dialogue among followers of various religions.
Dr al-Naimi said that about 500 participants from 75 countries, mainly religious leaders and researchers in the fields of comparative religion, institutions, bodies and universities working in the field of interfaith dialogue, will participate in the conference.
The DICID looks forward to contributing to enhancing the culture of peaceful co-existence , mutual respect and acceptance of others, Dr al-Naimi noted.
Women-friendly LG Pink Service launched
LG Electronics and Video Home have launched a women-friendly customer service programme, LG Pink Service.
The Pink Service, an extension of LG’s Care & Delight campaign, will allow female customers to be served by women technicians at home, as an alternative to having a male technician visiting them.
“LG has always put the needs of its customers at the forefront – from producing the latest innovative technology to customer service,” said DY Kim, president of LG Electronics Gulf. “This was the motivation behind developing our Care & Delight service as an extension of the customer-oriented services LG provides.”

Warning against eating shawarma on streets
A number of experts and specialists have warned about the risks of eating shawarma from roadside shops due to their exposure to pollutants, which can lead to intestinal inflammation, poisoning and even cancer, local daily Arrayah has reported.
The experts said vehicular exhaust emissions contain lead, which blends with the meat and enters the human digestive system when consumed, triggering problems related to the stomach, blood and brain.
According to the report, the specialists referred to two types of food contamination from shawarma consumption: microbial poisoning and cumulative poisoning resulting from air contamination and deposition of lead compounds emitted by vehicles.
They said the carbon monoxide from cars affects the oxygen function and the deposition of lead in the blood can cause diseases such as cancer and liver cirrhosis and also trigger kidney, liver, brain and nervous system failures, according to the report.
The experts reiterated the importance of exercising caution while eating fast food, especially during the summer.
They recommended that shawarma be made at home or bought from proper restaurants. They also suggested that knives which can be sterilised easily should only be used at such joints.
Vodafone code for postpaid customers
Vodafone has advised its postpaid customers to dial a short code - *200*25# - from their phones to continue enjoying Qatar’s lowest local calling rate of 25dhs per minute from May 14.
The rate will be available to customers at no additional fees. The short code is free and will be available only from May 14.
Vodafone postpaid customers who do not take this option will be charged at 35dhs a minute for local calls outside their in-bundle minutes offered with their plan.
On March 13, Vodafone Qatar reduced the rate for local calls on postpaid from 35dhs to 25dhs per minute.
