Less than 24 hours after the country experienced tremors as a result of the earthquake that hit Iran, a “tremor” scare led to the evacuation of the occupants of a 10-storied building located in Al Sadd yesterday. |
The incident occurred around 10.30am.
As soon as someone working in one of the offices in the building raised a “tremor” alarm, people rushed out.
Some of the occupants said the civil defence officials who arrived at the scene on hearing about the “alarm”, immediately asked the occupants on the ninth and tenth floors to stay out of the building for the rest of the day.
Following this, the offices on the two floors declared a holiday. However, those on the other floors functioned as usual.
In the two tremors that the country experienced on April 10 and 16, the building’s occupants were among the first in the Al Sadd area to run out for safety.
When contacted yesterday one of those working in an office on the ninth floor said it remained to be seen if the offices on the two floors would be open today.
Meanwhile, different parts of the country, including Doha and its suburbs, received good rain, accompanied by lightning and thunder, late in the evening on Tuesday and also in the afternoon yesterday.
The weather was cloudy, dusty and visibility was low throughout the country. Strong winds prevailed both onshore and offshore.
Met office has forecast scattered rains, accompanied by thunder in different areas in the next 24 hours. Visibility could remain as low as 3km.
The winds could reach upto 25 knots, according to Met office .
There are chances of waves reaching 7 feet and beyond at times, said a spokesperson.
