The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) and Qatar University (QU) have signed two agreements allowing more options for their students.

The agreements were signed by Qatar University president Professor Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad and CCQ acting president Professor Ibrahim al-Naimi.

According to the first agreement, QU and CCQ agreed to participate in the Cross Registration Programme, which provides students the opportunity to enroll at both organisations at the same time and take courses required to earn associate degrees or baccalaureate degrees from both the institutes.

The second agreement paves the way for students to transfer their credit hours from QU to CCQ.

This makes QU students eligible for the consideration of associate degrees in arts and science from CCQ. The students must, however, complete a minimum of 18 credit hours at CCQ.

Speaking on the occasion, al-Misnad observed that the new agreement would open new opportunities for the students.

She continued: “We have one vision, one aim and one mission, which is to provide the highest quality of education for the students of the country.”

Prof al-Naimi said that the new initiatives are aligned with the vision and objectives of CCQ.

He explained: “We have reached a milestone today. The new initiatives will enable the students to choose the college they want to continue their studies in.

“This allows a smooth transfer of the students from one organisation to the other. We are also planning to work out similar agreements with  other universities in the country.”

He revealed that such collaborations between CCQ and Calgary University in Qatar as well as those in Hamad Bin Khalifa University are being explored.

Dr Abdulnassir al-Tamimi, the associate dean for Workforce and Community Development at CCQ, gave a presentation of the new initiatives as well as the previous agreements with Qatar University.

He said that as per an agreement made last year, students of 10 different courses at CCQ could transfer their credit hours to QU.

“This year we have allowed students of another 17 courses to continue their studies in QU, taking the total number of courses to 27. This will continue in the coming years,” he added.

As for the admission requirements for studying in QU and CCQ simultaneously, students must fulfill the academic progress policies of both.

Each institution will allow the students to register no more than 18 credit hours per semester.

Students must receive official approval from the home institution to cross register with the partner institution.

All students who are attending or have attended QU are eligible to transfer their credit hours to CCQ.

They should have earned a grade of C or better in all the courses that are applied to the degree.

They should have completed a minimum of 60 college-level credit hours, out of which 18 credit hours must be completed in CCQ.
