New York-based fashion designer Eric Gaskins is the guest designer for ‘Fingerprint,’ the 14th Annual Fashion Show of Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar next week.
The event, to be hosted by Salam at The Gate Mall, is open to the public on April 16, 17, and 18, starting at 7pm.
Gaskins’ collection consists of luxurious day and evening pieces that have been worn by celebrities including Salma Hayek, Natalie Portman, Sharon Stone and Kim Cattrall.
At the age of 20, Gaskins graduated from Kenyon College in Ohio and was awarded the Thomas J Watson Fellowship which led to an interview with Hubert de Givenchy, which then led to an apprenticeship in Paris. That was the beginning of a love affair with fashion that is an even greater passion today.
“What I love is the feedback from the client when she says that she’s worn a dress or suit over and over, the cut making her feel incredibly confident, the fit making her look better than she ever thought she could. For me that is really what it’s all about,” Gaskins said.
‘Fingerprint’ showcases the work of VCUQatar fashion design sophomores, juniors and seniors, launching the latter from students into successful designers. The show will present a lineup of distinct and individual creative looks that the students have researched, experimented with, and now present to the audience.
This celebration of fashion brings together spectators, friends, and fashion enthusiasts from the region, not only to judge and/or admire the collections of the students, but also for the unique atmosphere of the grand event.
Tickets for the event can be bought online at www.qatar.vcu.edu Seating opens at 5.30pm and concludes at 6.45pm. Seating is open on a first-come, first-seated basis. More information could be had from 44020555 or visit www.qatar.vcu.edu
