A Qatar Leadership Academy plaque being presented to the US ambassador. On her part, the envoy presented the QLA administration with a number of valuable and rare books on the history of the US, including one translated into Arabic on the life of President Barack Obama.
US Ambassador Susan Ziadeh visited the Qatar Leadership Academy (QLA) accompanied by a number of officials.
Saqr al-Muhannadi, president of Al Khor the municipality and senior QLA officials, including Yousef Mansouri, manager of administrative affairs, Rashid al-Naimi, director of student affairs, and James Steckart, director of academic affairs, received the delegation.
The visit was aimed at gaining an understanding of the programme of the academy, which is considered to have a special educational character in the region.
After welcoming the delegation, Mansouri explained several aspects of the QLA and its special programme, stressing how the academy could co-operate with the US embassy to exchange expertise and support the students’ education.
Students from the 11th and 12th grades presented a welcome address for Ziadeh, followed by a question-and-answer session in which they learned about the US embassy’s role in supporting and advancing educational opportunities for Qatari students who wished to attend universities and educational institutions in the United States.
One of the most pertinent questions came from Commander Yarab al-Tau’a, who asked: “What are the steps you took to enter diplomatic service, as I am thinking of studying political science?”
The ambassador replied that one can have - through study - several paths to achieve what one wants. She also encouraged the students to read and learn new things.
A military exercise was presented by students from the 7th and 8th grades.
Ziadeh praised the QLA for its role in developing the skills of young Qataris and Arabs.
Later, she undertook a familiarisation tour to see the academic departments that demonstrate the extent of support provided by Qatar Foundation in co-operation with the Qatari Armed Forces. Gifts were also exchanged during the visit.
