To support the increased participation of Qatari nationals in the workforce, ExxonMobil Qatar supports scholarships, internships and summer programmes geared towards reaching young students in their formative years. These include an annual summer programme for high school pupils and an internship programme for university students.
“These programmes are an important part of our Qatarisation efforts,” said Abdullatif al-Naemi, ExxonMobil’s national development manager. “Through the internship programme, university students are able to help solve real-life issues, enabling us to identify top Qatari candidates for both scholarship and employment opportunities.”
Currently, the company extends its scholarships to students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, geosciences, law, finance, marketing, information technology, accounting, public affairs, business administration, human resources or a related field.
Applicants have to demonstrate a history of academic excellence, maintain full-time enrolment at a university, complete a four-week internship with ExxonMobil Qatar and exhibit strong leadership skills.
One student, Hissa Bukshaisha, recently interned with ExxonMobil Qatar and worked on a project, creating a model for operating expenditures.
“Working with a global company such as ExxonMobil is one of the great experiences I have had,” she said.
Now a senior at Qatar University, Hissa offers advice to fellow students: “It is a great chance to develop your skills and prepare yourself for the future working environment. ExxonMobil provides an experience that enables students to relate their university education to a professional environment.”
The high school summer programme aims at introducing Qatari students to the various functions within ExxonMobil so that they are able to make informed decisions while considering their university major.
