This year’s Vodafone Brain Hunt Inter-School Quiz contest (Qatar edition) will be held in the last week of April, quiz master Kannu Baker said yesterday.
The event will be held at MES Indian School.
Baker said the quiz competition, featuring mainly Asian expatriate schools, offers the contestants prizes and gift vouchers worth approximately QR30,000.
Like in the three previous editions, the competition will be held in two stages - the qualifying (written) round and the title round - featuring top six qualifying pairs from as many schools.
Apart from Asian expatriate schools, students from some international and Qatar community schools are also expected to take part in the
competition.
While the schools with 3,000 or less students on their rolls can send up to 20 teams of two members each, those having more than 3,000 students could send as many pairs as possible for the qualifying stage, said the quiz master.
“Only those students studying in classes from the Grade 9 above are allowed to compete,” Baker said, adding that the competition this year would have a new section “Pip of the tongue”, which mainly features some interesting topics of daily life which are generally overlooked by people.
On the kind of questions that are featured in the Brain Hunt, Baker said almost 60% of the total questions are somewhat tough, the remaining part is generally considered `light’ by contestants as well as audience.
“The Brain Hunt is a journey which explores the new horizons of knowledge and it is aimed at improving the knowledge of the viewers in general and students in particular,” he said.
As in the previous years, the audience stands a good chance to win a number of prizes this time as well.
The quiz master said the increasing popularity of the event could be gauged by the growing numbers of the participants in every edition.
Cindi Thomas, head of marketing Vodafone, said Vodafone Qatar is delighted to be part of a competition to test the potential and intelligence of the country’s schoolchildren and their company is happy with the levels of competition witnessed at the contest.
Luke Longney, senior marketing manager, Vodafone, said Vodafone Qatar is happy with the response that the competition has generated among the schoolchildren.
Qatar UAE Exchange country head Laxminarayan also spoke.
Along with Vodafone Qatar, Doha Bank, LuLu Hypermarket, Qatar UAE Exchange and Malabra Gold & Diamonds are also sponsoring the contest.
