United Development Company (UDC), master developer of The Pearl-Qatar, received Qatar’s ‘most innovative project of the year’ award at the second annual MEP summit and awards.

The two-day summit recognised outstanding achievements, contributions and innovations in the construction industry.
A number of topics presented by local and international speakers in the mechanical, electrical and the plumbing aspects of the construction industry were discussed.
The conference provided an opportunity for participants to listen to a variety of forums on sustainable regulations, energy conservation and MEP design models, and also a networking opportunity with leading experts in the field. Alfred Bangura, general manager, United Facilities Management Company (UFMCO) received ‘Qatar’s most innovative project of the year’ award on behalf of UDC.
The award recognised UDC’s The Pearl-Qatar for its implementation of the latest in technology and the highest standards in safety and maintenance, telecommunications, infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
“It has been an honour to work on such a ground-breaking project such as The Pearl-Qatar,” Bangura explained.
“Our dedication to innovation and sustainability will continue to evolve, and that’s a very exciting prospect.”
Executive contributions were given by Bill Jolly, head of MEP, KEO Consultants, Dr Alex Amato, chairman for research and innovation, Qatar Green Building Council, Diaa El Masry, LEED design manager, Qatar Green Leaders, and Hani Hawamdeh, president-elect, Ashrae Oryc Chapter.
Key speakers included Tahir Hanif (project control specialist, Ashghal), Sarfaa al-Zubaidi (senior MEP manager, Energy City), Saad al-Jibouri (commissioning managing director, Qatar Project Management), Alfred Seeling (design director, Woods Bagot), Georges Ali Georges (MEP manager, Commodore Contracting Company), Dr Essam El Essarg (research manager, Barwa and Qatari Diar Research Institute) and Dr Shetha al-Zubaido (development director, Tameer Holding Investment & Tatweer UAQ Real Estate).
