‘Qatar has taken steps to combat corruption’

Qatar has issued strict rules for combating corruption and deal with such cases transparently with no exceptions, affirmed HE the Attorney General of Qatar Dr Ali bin Fetaies al-Marri at the Forum for combating corruption, recently organised by Qatar University (QU).
Dr al-Marri explained that it is not practically possible to eradicate corruption 100% from the society. However, Qatar has adopted strict laws in this respect. He further stressed the independence of the Qatari judiciary from the government authority.
“Qatar is the only Arab country that has completely separated the judiciary from other authorities, which gave the judicial system great consistency and reliability,” he said.
Regarding the creation of an Arab court for human rights, he pointed out that current circumstances are not favourable for this. “Yet, the future is promising after the dust settles down in  the Arab Spring countries.”
He also considered that the press and media have a great role in combating corruption and exposing it.
“For 11 years, we have never blocked any complaint. However, some of the corruption cases are known and the others are considered secrets by the Public Prosecution,” stressed Dr al-Marri.
