Nearly 120 secondary school students were recently given an insight into the life and experiences of young Qatari engineers and the environment of the energy industry.
The initiative was part of RasGas Company Limited’s (RasGas) corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme support for Qatar University’s (QU) College of Engineering for the fourth edition of the Life is Engineering
Programme (LIEP).
The interactive session aimed at attracting young Qataris to the industry allowed Qatari students to learn about engineering in practice. Two RasGas representatives provided an overview of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector and the multiple career opportunities offered in the field. The session was held in Lusail.
“RasGas recognises that engaging Qatari secondary school students from all over the country to learn about engineering is critical for the long-term development of their future educational and professional careers. Sessions like these are part of a larger scheme to attract the best and brightest Qatari talent to the LNG sector in support of the 2030 National Vision’s human and economic development pillars,” said Abdulrahman al-Mannai, learning and development manager at RasGas.
The LIEP, a joint programme between QU’s College of Engineering and major local business players, provides talented Qatari high school students with technical experience and raises awareness on industry requirements through a mentoring and skills transfer scheme with the support of sponsor companies such as
RasGas.
In December 2012, RasGas renewed its support for this diverse training educational initiative for the fourth consecutive year. The LIEP is designed to instil an interest in the areas of scientific, experimental and research skills among high school students in Qatar. The long-term education and skills transfer scheme culminates in the construction and test drive of real racing cars at Lusail International Circuit.
