Emir invites UAE president to Arab summit
President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan has received a written message from HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, inviting him to attend the 24th Ordinary Session of the Arab League Council at the Summit Level, due to be held in Doha in late March.
The message was received by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Lt Gen Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan during his meeting with Qatar’s ambassador to the UAE Abdullah bin Mohamed al-Othman.
Farewell ceremony
HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohamed bin Jabor al-Thani, the Assistant Foreign Minister For International Co-operation Affairs, hosted a farewell ceremony in honour of Juan Antonio Herandez, the ambassador of Venezuela to Qatar whose tenure has expired in Doha.
The ceremony, held at the Diplomatic Club yesterday, was attended by a number of heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar and officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Advisory council team off to Quito
HE the Deputy Speaker of the Advisory Council Issa bin Rabea al-Kuwari and his accompanying delegation left Doha yesterday for Ecuador to take part in the 128th Assembly and related meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), due to be held in the capital Quito from March 22 to 27.
Talks during the meetings will cover several key issues including the role of parliament in safeguarding civilians’ lives, fair trade and innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable development, the use of media to enhance citizen engagement and democracy, as well as the election of the president and vice-presidents of the 128th Assembly and the amendments to the Statutes and Rules of the IPU.
