Qatar Primary Materials Company’s (QPMC) Gabbro Terminal Operations have surpassed the handling of aggregate cargo in excess of 100,000 tonnes twice in a row within a 24-hour window period last month, the company said in a release last night.

On February 24, the terminal operations handled some 101,869 tonnes of aggregate cargo and 103,023 tonnes of aggregate on February 25.

These achievements have been made despite constraints within the aggregate supply chain such as vessel congestion, limited yard capacity, transportation, road construction and shore crane engagement due to planned maintenance.

QPMC Terminal Operations have adopted the motto and philosophy of ‘Together we achieve more’ based on teamwork to achieve set targets and required results. This, QPMC said “is a must” within a port operation, based on 24-hours service delivery.

Mike Powles, QPMC Port Division Gabbro Terminal manager, said there were many “contributing success factors” to these outstanding performances.

QPMC Board of Directors and management team have extended their appreciation to the relevant stakeholders within the supply chain, who have contributed to these achievements.

QPMC said it “will endeavour to ensure that a high level of efficiency is maintained”, while it develops the terminal to be a world class facility.

The company said it is maintaining high efficiency levels at the firm’s Gabbro Berth Terminal at Mesaieed.

Set up under an Emiri Decree in August 2006, QPMC also operates world-class sand-washing plants in Qatar to meet the needs of the construction industry, in terms of washed sand.

Besides the Gabbro port terminal at Mesaieed, QPMC operates and manages a jetty project in Lusail and logistics and stockpile centre in Mesaieed.

QPMC is also developing aggregates and sand quarries in the UAE and Oman, with efficient management of the transporting of these materials to Qatar.
