Stakeholders from the European Commission and the Gulf Co-operation Council have expressed a strong interest in pursuing research for customisation of clean energy technologies to the conditions in the GCC region.

Common publications and research to develop macro-economic models to depict and analyse energy systems are also among the common areas of interest discussed yesterday at the meeting on the ‘European Union–GCC co-operation on renewables, energy efficiency and carbon capture and storage’.
The three-day event, organised by QF’s Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) and the EU-GCC Clean Energy Network, is concluding today.
The working sessions yesterday included the discussion group on renewable energy sources, training seminars on tri-generation & district cooling, carbon capture and storage.
The representatives of QEERI, EU-GCC Clean Energy Network, the European Commission and the partners confirmed their commitment to ensure the sustainability of the Network and the achievement of their common goals.
A technical site visit to Ras Laffan Industrial City is planned today.
The EU-GCC Clean Energy Network is an initiative created and supported by the European Commission and by relevant Gulf Co-Operation Council authorities.
The main objective is to support and enhance the long term strategic EU – GCC energy relationship, addressing specifically clean energy issues.
It is also intended to develop concrete co-operation activities of common interest on clean energy (including policy, research and technology aspects) among various stakeholders across the EU and GCC countries.
