The agreement is targeted at activities and initiatives in QU’s College of Engineering (CENG) and covers collaborative research projects, summer training for students, providing support for final projects, and recruitment of fresh graduates. The MoU also allows QDVC experts to be guest speakers at CENG events, or as judges for final examination projects.
“This further strengthens the bond we have with QDVC who, since last year, has been an active partner in the College’s development,” said CENG dean Dr Mazen Hasna.
He recalled that the partnership with QDVC was launched due to the efforts of Civil Engineering Department head Dr Saleh Mubarak.
“It is becoming more and more important for us to build a connection between academic study and the industry in order to ensure our students the best integration into the labour market after graduation,” Dr Hasna explained.
QDVC deputy CEO Hamad al-Bishri said the company is committed to sustainable development which includes transfer of know-how to Qatar. “Our company is involved in major development projects of the State. It is therefore natural to partner with the national university to engage the youth in these initiatives,” he stated.
Pointing out that QDVC is the first company in Qatar to work on a rail project with the LRT in Lusail, al-Bishri said it is an exclusive chance for Qatari youth to get experience in this field by joining the company.
“I would particularly like to thank Dr Hassan al-Derham, vice-president of research at Qatar University, who introduced us to the College of Civil Engineering, Stephan Van Dyk, our HR Director, and all the employees of QDVC who have no hesitation in spending time with the students to help them reach their professional level.”
