Committed to society’s welfare
Dear Sir,
Further to MJC Nair’s letter, “A model annual day for schools” (Gulf Times, February 28), I would like to say that the event was made a success by the hard work of each and every one of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the Noble International School with constant and continued guidance of the management committee, Noble Indian Educational Society.
Meanwhile, we are well aware that there is nothing called a “perfect programme” as something else or someone else will be there to excel this and this is what we are really looking for. Our aim in organising any event is to bring about some useful changes among the student community for a positive progress in our society. This is what is actually required, not some marketing gimmicks.
Unfortunately, many educational establishments only care about their commercial interests and choose even their syllabus and curriculum with the sole aim of achieving a better market value for them. The consequence is a society devoid of love, affection, respect, compassion and other human values.
Let me plead and implore all those in the educational field to be passionately committed to the welfare of the community, socially, nationally and globally.

Driving a point home
Dear Sir,
The letter, “Driving everyone crazy in Doha” (Gulf Times, February 28), drove (pardon the pun) the following point home effectively; motorists must show consideration to others and it is essential for traffic safety. Good road etiquette must be inculcated among people even at the learning stage of driving. Good manners are the basis of a cultured society, we know. But we seldom practise them while driving a car. We are always in a rush to reach our destinations and we consider others on the road as an obstacle to this.
In Doha, the practice of people talking on mobile phones while driving is widespread. Despite strict rules against it, almost everyone is doing it. The Traffic Department should launch a crackdown on people talking on mobile phones while driving.
