Reach Out To Asia (Rota) has thanked sponsors, partners, thousands of participants, and celebrities as well as its volunteers for making the sixth Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day Qatar’s biggest community event of the year.
The annual entertainment spectacular organised by Rota was held at the Museum of Islamic Art Park on February 8.
The event had the support of “Flagship Sponsor” Maersk Oil, “Leadership Sponsor” Commercialbank and a host of valued Wheels ‘n’ Heels partners led by the Qatar Cycling Federation, Aspire, the Hamad Medical Corporation, Al Sadd Sports Club, the Qatar Olympic Committee, Qtel (now Ooredoo), the Qatar Cancer Association, the Childhood Cultural Centre, Dhreima, Kids On The Go, and Civil Defence.
“Wheels ‘n’ Heels would like to thank our partners and sponsors whose efforts make a fantastic contribution to Qatar’s largest community event of the year,” said Rota executive director Essa al-Mannai. “In addition, I want to praise the contribution of the volunteers whose hard work ensures that Wheels ‘n’ Heels is a success year after year.”
While Maersk Oil and Commercialbank reached out to enable thousands of children and adults to enjoy a fun-filled day, Qtel’s QR150,000 donation would help sustain the Rota community and education projects in Qatar and throughout Asia.
“We were really pleased by the feedback on the Action on Diabetes awareness and screening village. Maersk Oil Qatar is focused on delivering credible, value-adding partnerships as part of our comprehensive social investment programme,” said Faisal al-Mudahka, head of social investment at Maersk Oil Qatar.
“We are particularly pleased that the Action on Diabetes screening and awareness activities are making a real difference to the people of Qatar. We tested a record 1,000-plus people in one day and found 10 new cases, which were given necessary support by the Qatar Diabetes Association,” he added.
Commercialbank deputy chief executive Abdulla Saleh al-Raisi said: “Commercialbank is dedicated to supporting Qatar’s community and social infrastructure through corporate social responsibility programmes and the sponsorship of events. The bank is proud to have participated in the Wheels ‘n’ Heels event as ‘Leadership Sponsor’ and help Rota focus the community’s attention on the life-long benefits of nutrition and exercise.”
Al-Mannai also thanked the entertainers who added glitz and glamour to Wheels ‘n’ Heels, including Hamza Namira, Bashar al-Shati, Rahma Riyadh, Ali al-Ghrair, Khalil al- Rumaithi, Doha Jazz Band, and Wheels ‘n’ Heels emcees Ibrahim al-Beshri (of Al Jazeera Children’s Channel) and Eman al-Mograbi (of Baraem Children’s Channel).
Donations made during Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day will provide additional financial support to help Rota continue with its mission to provide quality education, encourage relationships among communities and restore education in crisis-affected areas across Asia and the world.
