HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, minister of energy and industry and chairman and managing director of QP, and Wael Sawan, Qatar Shell’s executive vice president, yesterday inaugurated the first learning programme of Project Management Centre of Excellence Tafawoq, at Qatar Shell Research & Technology Centre.

The training programme will provide participants with a solid foundation of the principles, processes and practices of project management over the lifecycle of a capital investment project to build their competencies in project management.
It uses a blended learning approach comprising 10 weeks of virtual learning, classroom learning and on the job training, followed by an intense week of face-to-face training using discussions, case studies and role-play enhancing and embedding the virtual learning.
The inauguration of the learning programme follows the signing of the letter of intent last November by Dr al-Sada and Peter Voser, CEO, Shell, that established a partnership between QP and Shell to launch a regionally recognised Project Management Centre of Excellence in Qatar.
Tafawoq aims to increase the competence level of the project delivery community in Qatar at all levels. Its programme will span across the project lifecycle and will target project engineers who are involved in project management, supply chain management and project delivery. The centre will support these professionals to achieve a sustained and competitive performance as they deliver Qatar’s extraordinary capital investment programme.
Dr al-Sada said: “Launching Tafawoq’s first learning programme after only five months from signing the letter of intent is a key milestone that we should all be proud of. We are delighted to be working with Shell on this partnership that builds on Shell Project Academy and QP’s efforts to continuously enhance competence development in project management and is aligned with the objectives of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and the wise direction of HH the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani.”

“Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is in negotiation with QP and Shell to partner with them in Tafawoq,” said Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al-Thani, president of Hamad bin Khalifa University and vice president, education, Qatar Foundation.
