Legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo is all set to embark humbly and from the bottom on a new career in marketing and advertisement.

Brazilian website UOL Esporte reported yesterday that the retired international is to work for a year as an intern at the London headquarters of advertising giant WPP. CEO Martin Sorrell confirmed that Ronaldo is to join the firm, although he did not say exactly what responsibilities the former footballer would have at WPP.

The world’s largest communications firm has been a partner of Ronaldo’s sports marketing firm 9ine since 2011. Both WPP and Ronaldo, the top goalscorer in the history of the World Cup, have 45-per-cent stakes in the Brazilian company.

“We have a joint venture with Ronaldo  - 9ine - which has been very successful in Brazil with clients like Claro and Duracell. He is going to work on that with us in the UK. We will be working together at the (Rio de Janeiro 2016) Olympics and the (Brazil 2014) World Cup,” Sorrell told the Brazilian website.
