Bangladesh and India signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements as Indian External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid arrived in Dhaka yesterday on a two-day visit.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni received her Indian counterpart at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Later, they held the second high-level meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) and reviewed a whole range of bilateral issues.
The two ministers signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) - the construction of Akhaura-Agartala rail link and the setting up of a think-tank to be called Bangladesh- India Foundation. An addendum to the Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement between the two countries was also inked while they exchanged Bangladesh-India maps.
Khurshid handed over Moni a solar lamp as a symbol of Indian assistance for the victims of the deadly cyclone Sidr which hit the Bangladesh coastline five years ago. “Khurshid is also scheduled to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other senior government leaders,” a foreign ministry spokesman said.
