Chinese culture was at its best at the Qatar National Theatre where the country’s embassy arranged a show on Wednesday to enthral a capacity crowd.
Several artistes - musicians, singers, dancers, pianists and dramatists - were flown to Qatar to present what were some of the best of glimpses of Chinese culture which have transitioned from being a centuries-old tradition to a compatible modern entity.
“As time goes,” said a Chinese engineer among the audience, “the culture of our country has undergone changes to make it look contemporary not only for those who produce it but also for outsider.”
And his point was proved by the performances in around two-hour breathtaking show on the stage.
Right from the musical instruments to the opera-styled melodrama to highlight the impact of changing seasons on human mood was so much in tune with modernity that everyone among the audience felt it close to heart.
The show titled “The joy of spring festival” was to mark the start of new Chinese or Lunar year - the biggest holiday across the Asian continent.
Diplomats from the Chinese and other embassies in Doha, Qatari dignitaries and a large number of expats from various nationalities were among the audience.
