Qatar Airways Group has announced its plans to celebrate Qatar’s National Sport Day with a fun-filled programme of sporting activities for employees and their families today.

Following last year’s incredibly successful Sport Day, Qatar Airways has planned a wide range of activities at Al Jazeera Academy in Doha, featuring competitions in football, tennis, volleyball, cricket and basketball. Teams comprising employees from different departments across the company will be showcasing their talent, battling with each other during the action-packed day.

Other activities include play stations for children, face painting and henna art, an amusing clown performance for kids, zumba dance classes, a tug-of-war competition, together with races for children and mums.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar al-Baker said the airline was proud to once again lend its full support to the Government’s drive promoting a lifestyle of health and well-being among Qataris, expatriates and their families.

“Last year’s National Sport Day was celebrated with vigour and was a huge hit among our employees and families. More than 500 people participated, enjoying a great day out with colleagues and loved ones,” he said.

“Over the past few months, the company has been gearing up to plan activities for this week’s event, which not only encourages a healthy lifestyle, but a get together that  further encourages and builds employee spirit and team work.”

The National Sport Day is celebrated every second Tuesday of February and is an initiative adopted by the Heir Apparent His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. It is part of Qatar’s vision to help local institutions create a healthy community, with a mission to promote sports, physical education and sustainable development in the State of Qatar.

The annual event demonstrates Qatar’s desire and dedication to building healthy communities as it also gears up to host the much anticipated 2022 FIFA World Cup.
