For the first time a Motocross Championship will take place in Qatar,  organised by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation at the new Losail Motocross Track. The Losail MX Championship will consist of five rounds with two different motorbike categories competing: MX1 (from 175CC to 250CC 2-stroke and from 290cc to 450cc 4-stroke) and MX2 (from 100cc to 125cc 2-stroke and from 175cc to 250cc 4-stroke).

The first round will be held this Friday, February 15 at the new track built just next to the Losail International Circuit. The access to the MX track is from behind the main grandstand.  The track activity will start at 10:30am with the free practice and two races will follow —,race 1 at 13:00 and race 2 at 15:00. Both events will compete at the same time.

Two weeks later, the FIM MX1/MX2 Motocross World Championship will be held at Losail.  The Qatar round will be the opening round of the 2013 season on March 1 and 2.

The event has generated a lot of expectations among motor sport fans not only because It will be the first MXGP in the Middle East but also because it is the first ever Grand Prix to be held at night.

Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah, QMMF president, said that he is very happy to bring the FIM MX1/MX2 Motocross World Championships to Qatar and the Middle East for the first time.
